MY VINNETOU BOOK

“My Vinnetou Book” is my debut comics, uniting the stories of an Amsterdam squatter and a little boy in a tale about the power of friendship and fantasy being stronger than death.

It was awarded the Muriel prize in 2015 for the best comics book, as well for the best comics drawing, and the Zlatá stuha prize for the best youth and children’s book in the comics category.

It’s an author’s book – meaning, that I wrote the story, drew all the content, did the lettering, the cover and all the design elements.

The comics was financed by a crowdfunding campaign, with different people supporting it’s realisation. It was published by Labyrint publishing house. All its reprints have been sold out.

BRIDE AND GROOM LIE HIDDEN FOR THREE DAYS

A poem by Sylvia Plath’s husband, Ted Hughes, inspired me to create a cyberpunk comics story, in which a a male and female robots construct each other’s bodies. The comics takes place on Crimea, in an abandoned power-plant, that I visited on my travels with Roots´n´Future soundsystem.

STORY OF A HUNT

A comics for the Nový Prostor magazine.

COMICS FOR THE BELMONDO MAGAZINE

Comics stories for the Belmondo magazine in collaboration with journalist Ondřej Nezbeda. We were substantially restricted by the format: often we had to adapt a few-pages short story into mere three pages of comics. Nevertheless, these works are to this day an interesting memory of a haunting atmosphere of my favorite short stories: the antimilitarist short about the inventor Hiram Witt, the angel o E. A. Poe, who has a wine flask for a head, or the fictional Hairy monster, created by a lover and collector of Prague’s folk tales, Popelka Biliánová.

COMICS TEXTBOOK – IN COMICS

After publishing the My Vinnetou Book a number of people approached me with a request to teach them comics. I began to share my experience and help them develop and finalize their first ideas in comics form. Over the time I have noticed that their problems regarding writing comics and creativity in general are always similar. Thus the idea for a comics textbook was born – it’s aim is not only to provide readers with the know-how of creating a comics book from the beginning to the end, but also support the creative process in general – the artistic angle of utilizing fantasy and developing ideas, as well as purely practical issues such as workflow or funding. The textbook is uniquely combining theoretical part with an original comics story. The readers will understand lettering, creating a storyboard or a layout through a story of an illustrator by the name of Adela, who in the course o the book, is going to fulfill her dream of becoming a comics author.

TALE OF THE FUNNEL HOLE

A book by writer Petr Stančík, laureate of the Magnesia Litera book award, which I illustrated for the Argo publishing house. It appeared in several charts of bestselling children’s books.
